Reaction: Mourinho - Friends more important than football
“I care about my two friends. Barcelona is Barcelona, football is football. I care about it but for me there are more important things. I want them both out of the hospital.”
Cole: No fears for Hilario
‘He’s a very good goalkeeper,’ states Cole. ‘It is a possibility he’ll play and if he comes in, he won’t let anyone down. He looks good in training and is an experienced goalkeeper.’
Cole also revealed that despite standing three inches short of six foot, he himself was a candidate for the emergency keeper role taken on by John Terry in the Reading game.
‘I do mess about in goal after training but JT is much better than me,’ he explained. ‘But I was thinking maybe in the last minute you want your defenders out there.’
‘When Petr went off, I actually said on the bench, what if Carlo gets injured now? I’ll have to go in goal.‘But when the time came, I don’t think they were too keen to put me between the sticks.’
Look at it this way - Save our goalkeepers quote from nei bennett
1. Can two serious head injuries in one game to goalkeepers be a coincidence?
of course not. wth. i bet they had something against my champions.
Were Hunt’s and Sonko’s challenges really acceptable, or were they part of a culture that accepts that accidents happen and are part of the game? If they were the latter, that is a pretty sick culture.
It is true that collisions do happen. It is true that accidents do happen. It could even be freakishly true that two goalkeepers could sustain serious head injuries during one game and that nothing be wrong with the game or the culture.
But if there is not a thorough investigation into the match and review of the culture when such an incident happens, then the whole sport is being irresponsible. What happened to Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini in the same 107 minutes must never happen to two goalkeepers again.
Cudicini optimism for swift return
Carlo Cudicini has declared that he hopes to be in full working order again by the weekend as he recovers from the head injury he suffered at Reading.
Cudicini was discharged late on Saturday evening and was well enough to attend Chelsea’s training HQ at Cobham on Monday where he spoke to Chelsea TV.
‘I have just a little bit of a headache but apart from that I’m okay,’ he said, although he revealed that the collision with Reading’s Ibrahima Sonko has left him with little recall of the moment.
‘It is quite strange what happened to two goalkeepers in one game. It is probably something that is going to be written in the record books.’
Cech news update
Chelsea Football Club is pleased to confirm that Petr Cech's condition is improving.
He is now fully conscious following the operation and the effects of the anaesthetic.
Several members of the Chelsea management and team including José Mourinho and John Terry visited him this afternoon (pictured), while Carlo Cudicini was at the training ground today.
